What a Tuesday
actually looks like

Job adverts are usually vague on purpose. Here is the real shape of a day, what you get paid, and what happens after eighteen months.

A day on the round

Three homes, one round,
and a very good coffee stop

7:40

Meet at the base

Load up, check the day sheet, find out if anything has changed overnight. Keys signed out. Ten minutes, no drama.

8:15

First home — morning management

The family have had their breakfast and are heading out. Once they have gone, the whole home is reset: beds, kitchen, bathrooms, laundry on. Never while they are still eating. This is the service we are known for.

10:30

Second home

A weekly Gold service. Full clean, laundry taken through to finishing, and a written note left for the client about anything they should know.

12:30

Break

A proper break, not eaten standing up. If you are under 18 you get at least 30 minutes and we hold you to taking it.

13:15

Third home — specialist rotation

This is where you learn the interesting things. Stone worktops one week, wardrobe rotation the next, silverware before a dinner party.

15:30

Finishing at the last home

Equipment cleaned and packed away, keys accounted for, day sheet completed. Your mentor gives you two minutes of feedback — one thing that went well, one thing to work on.

16:00

Done

You head home from the last property. Your evening is your own — no split shifts, and nobody here works after 6pm.

Pay & conditions

Written down, so you can hold us to it

Your wage

You are employed on a contract with real hours from day one. You are paid at least the National Minimum Wage for your age band, which is set by law and reviewed every April. Your rate rises as you move up the Standard, and we tell you the figure for the next stage before you get there.

Your hours

Regular, daytime, and agreed in advance. If you are under 18 the law caps you at 8 hours a day and 40 hours a week, and we build your rota around that rather than pushing at the edges of it. Nobody at the Academy works after 6pm.

Holiday & sick pay

Full statutory holiday entitlement from your first day, and statutory sick pay if you need it. You are an employee, not a self-employed contractor — that distinction matters more than people realise.

What we provide

Uniform, all equipment and products, your certification costs, travel between homes during the working day, and a phone contact for your supervisor that you are actively encouraged to use.

Getting to work

Being able to drive is a real benefit here, and we would encourage you to get your licence. If you are learning we will fit your rota around lessons and tests, and once you reach Gold we can contribute toward the cost. That contribution sits under a written training agreement, so part of it is repayable if you leave within twelve months of us paying it.

Pension

Automatic enrolment once you are eligible, with our contribution on top of yours. Nobody thinks about this at seventeen. Your forty-year-old self will be pleased you did.

Exact rates for the current intake are confirmed in writing before you accept an offer, and are never below the statutory minimum for your age. Ask us for the current figures at any point — we will tell you straight away.

The team

A small firm, which cuts both ways

You will not be a number here. Everyone knows everyone, the owner will know your name within a fortnight, and if something is wrong you can say so to the person who can actually fix it.

The flip side is that there is nowhere to hide. If you do not turn up, three families notice by nine o’clock. We are honest about that, because the people who thrive here rather like it.

How we behave

The Highgrove code

Six lines. Every person here signs up to them, from the newest trainee to the owner.

  • Be where you said you would be. Reliability is the whole product. Everything else is detail.
  • What you see in a home stays in the home. No exceptions, no gossip, no photographs.
  • Say it early. Broken something, running late, out of your depth — tell someone straight away. Nobody has ever been in trouble here for owning up quickly.
  • Leave it better than you found it. Including the store cupboard and the kitchen at base.
  • Teach the person behind you. Once you know something, it is yours to pass on.
  • You can always say no. To a task that is not safe, to a home where you are uncomfortable, to hours that do not work. Say so and we sort it.

Afterwards

Where this can take you

Some people build a career with us. Some use the qualification as a passport. Both are fine, and we will write you a proper reference either way.

Head Housekeeper

Running a team of your own here, holding the standard and training the people coming up behind you.

Operations & client management

The office side — scheduling rounds, quoting new homes, managing the relationship with clients.

Hotels & private estates

Executive housekeeping is a recognised profession in luxury hospitality, in Wales and well beyond it.

Training & assessing

Qualify as an assessor and teach the craft formally. Several routes open up once you hold the certification.

Your own business

You will have learned pricing, standards, client care and quality control from the inside. Some of our best people have gone on to do exactly this.

Somewhere else entirely

Punctuality, discretion, working unsupervised to a standard. Those transfer to almost any job you will ever apply for.

Come and look

Spend a morning with us first

Before you commit to anything, come out on a round for a morning and see whether it suits you. It is paid, and there is no obligation on either side afterwards.
