How it goes
The form below, an email, or a phone call. Whichever you find easiest. We reply within three working days, always.
Ten minutes, informal. What you are looking for, what the job actually involves, and whether the hours could work for you.
At our Cardiff base. Not a formal interview — a conversation and a look round. If you are under 18, bring a parent or guardian.
Come out on a real round with a senior housekeeper and see it properly. Wear all black. Paid, and no obligation on either side afterwards.
We recruit on merit. The Academy is open to applicants of any background, and if you need an adjustment at any stage of the process — for a disability, a health condition, or anything else — tell us and we will sort it.
The form
Five minutes at most. There are no trick questions and no wrong answers.
Before you ask
No. You do not need GCSEs, experience or a reference from a previous job. If your reading or maths needs work, we build support into the programme rather than screening you out for it. What we actually look for is reliability and caring about doing something properly.
Sixteen or over. There is no upper age limit and the Academy is open to applicants of any age, background or gender. We have taken on school leavers, people changing career, and people coming back to work after years away — the training is the same for everyone.
Yes — it would be a real benefit. Our housekeepers move between several homes a day across Cardiff and the Vale, so being able to drive makes you far more useful on a round and opens up more of the work.
Not having one yet will not rule you out. If you are learning we will fit your rota around lessons and tests, and once you reach the Gold standard we can contribute toward the cost under a written training agreement.
Yes, from day one. You are employed on a proper contract at no less than the National Minimum Wage for your age band, with statutory holiday and sick pay. Your weekly study day is paid time too — you are not expected to do the qualification in your evenings.
Yes, whether or not either side decides to go further afterwards. We think asking someone to work an unpaid trial shift is poor form, so we do not do it.
Talk to us. We can sometimes arrange part-time hours around a course, and we always build rotas around education for anyone under 18.
If you are 16 to 19 and not currently in education, employment or training, Working Wales may be able to support you onto the programme through Jobs Growth Wales+. They are free and independent — call 0800 028 4844.
For the taster morning, please wear all black — something you can move and kneel in, with flat closed-toe shoes. We provide everything else.
For the informal meeting beforehand, wear whatever you are comfortable in.
Three working days, including when the answer is no. Being left hanging is miserable and we will not do it to you. If three days pass and you have heard nothing, ring 02920 343777 — something has gone wrong at our end.
Or skip the form entirely
Plenty of people find a phone call easier than a form, and we would honestly rather hear your voice. Weekdays, office hours.
